Stay and Train
To busy juggling all of life’s responsibilities to train your dog? Wish your dog had better manners but just don’t have time to train your pup? Your dog has been to obedience classes but needs a refresher? Going on vacation and want your dog to be educated and stimulated while boarding? Want to come home to a dog that has better manners than when you left? Whether you have a busy schedule, or you want to jump start your dog’s training, send your dog to us!
With our reward-based training program, your dog will have fun while learning good manners. An educated dog is a happy dog! Dogs LOVE to learn! We will work on teaching your dog basic obedience commands. If your dog has basic manners we can teach them more advanced obedience exercises, tricks, and/or scentwork. We believe in keeping training fun. We know that every dog is unique and all training programs are individually tailored to your dog. Dogs learn fastest with short sessions interspersed with play and daily life, which makes board & train much more effective than the traditional classes or in-home lessons.
We use only positive methods (NO electronic collar or force) so it is important that your dog have food drive or toy drive.
Our training method is based on patience, praise, and consistency. YOU are an important part of your dog’s success. We provide you and your family with two hours of private lessons at our facility to ensure a smooth transition and for good carryover of your dog’s new behaviors.
This program is designed for dogs that do not need any major behavioral modifications, but simply need education on basic obedience commands. We do not accept dogs with fear, anxiety or aggression issues.
Puppies are sponges when it comes to learning!
Like adult dogs, every puppy is a unique individual, so training must be tailored accordingly. Once your puppy is evaluated, a specialized program will be designed for him/her. Our training programs are all based on positive reinforcement. Your puppy will think they’re playing, making it a fun way for them to interact with both our trainers and you. We also help guide your puppy through various confidence-building exercises and expose them to different environmental distractions.
Most common commands:
- To come when called (Recall command)
- To not jump on people (unless invited to do so)
- To be quiet when told
- To wait at open doors
- To walk nicely on leash (heel)
- To drop or release items from their mouth.
- To sit command
- To down on command
- To remain on a place mat (bed, rug or mat) and stay there
- To wait on command
This is not an exhaustive list of commands. Because every dog and household has different needs we personalize your dog’s program

I have been training and trialing my dogs for over 18 years. I have competed and earned numerous titles in obedience, agility, field and nosework. My black Labrador Retriever, Tyler, has the distinction of being the 2008 and 2009 National Obedience Champion and First Runner Up in 2010. In 2012, Tyler and I became the first and only American team to win the Obedience World Cup (we placed second in 2010). Currently I compete at the Master’s Level in agility with Zaidan. Zeal has earned his OTCH (Obedience Championship), was Second Runner Up at the 2017 National Obedience Championship, won the prestigious Eukanuba Classic and won a number of Regional events in 2017 and 2018. Zayna is training to compete in obedience and agility. All of my dogs have Tricks titles. Just for fun, I have been training a potbelly pig!
I’m a training junkie. I’m fascinated with figuring out how to be a better communicator and “speak dog”. Over the years my training methods have evolved. I continually attend seminars, take online classes, and experiment. Always with the goal of becoming an even better trainer. I believe our dogs deserve positive training methods (no harsh corrections, or e-collar when training). I believe in training with kindness and patience. Consistent carryover by family members is also very important. All of at Petra’s Dog Resource Center Trainers have been hand trained directly by me. I will oversee the training of every dog that comes to our facility.
